VA employees may receive CEU credit through the talent management system (TMS) by pre-registering using, attending and completing the evaluation posted in TMS using the link above.

When a participant clicks on the TMS Registration Link, they will be taken to the TMS Login page. After logging in they will see the Item Detail page for the item that they wish to register.  On the right side of the page there are 3 buttons: “Add to Learning Plan”, “Start Course” and “Register Now”. All they need to do is click on the “Register Now” button. (They should not click on “Add to Learning Plan”. This will add the training to their To-Do List, but it does not register them for the training.)

After clicking on the “Register Now” button a list of the dates, time and locations for the scheduled offering will appear. They can choose the one that works best for them by clicking on the “Register Now” button to the right of that offering. On the next page they click on the “Confirm” button on the upper right side of the page. This will add the training to their To-Do List and they will receive an email confirmation from TMS.

Program Description:
Pain is a common and challenging symptoms to assess and manage for patients with cognitive difficulties who often may have limitations in communications, but instead manifest their discomfort through changes in behavior.  The most effective strategy to pain assessment and management is an interdisciplinary approach, using appropriate medications, psychosocial interventions, and frequent follow-up to monitor symptom status.  This program will include a systematic approach to evaluating pain symptoms in patients with dementia or who are non-communicative. Specific strategies and medications and interventions will be reviewed so that participants will have greater knowledge and confidence in managing pain for older veterans with a dementia diagnosis.
